February 8, 2018 - 9:30 am
Over the counter products containing codeine will no longer be sold after February the 1st, with codeine only available via prescription from this date.
SANDAS and NCETA are providing workers from NGO AOD Treatment services and other related services an opportunity to come and hear from experts in the field about the changes, the evidence for codeine use in the management of pain, and the potential impact on people who may be dependent on codeine through the over use of these over the counter products.
There will also be opportunities for discussion about the impact on AOD treatment services, and strategies for how to best support our clients who may be using codeine.
Speakers will include:
- Roger Nicholas, Senior Project Manager, National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction
- Doctor Suzanne Nielsen, Pharmacist, Senior Lecturer, National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, University of NSW.
- Doctor Meredith Craigie, Anaesthetist and Specialist Pain Medicine Physician, Royal Adelaide Hospital.
- TBA – Speaker on potential impact of changes on NGO Treatment Services
