Interested in Volunteering for FDS?
Family Drug Support is currently looking for expressions of interest in volunteering on their National Support Line. FDS operates a 24 hour 7 day a week line for families who are struggling with a family or friends drug use.
The aim of the line is to help reduce the isolation and stigma often associated with alcohol and other drug use. To respect and value the difference between individuals and recognise there is no one ‘right’ way. Volunteers aim to help the family member work out strategies for looking after themselves and the other family members who are impacted. More important is the ability to listen without making judgements. ACCESS TO A LANDLINE PHONE IS IMPERATIVE.

The training will take place over two days from 9.00am – 5.00pm
Our next training dates are:
Adelaide SA – 30th November & 1st December
Day One – A basic introduction into Alcohol and Other Drugs
Day Two – Stages of change for the family, basic counselling skills i.e. listening skills, types of calls and management of difficult callers.
Additional residential and education days will be held over the year and volunteers will need to attend this ongoing training.
FDS is looking for a commitment of one shift every two-three weeks for a minimum period of 12 months. If you are selected to attend the training it is very important that you are able to fulfil this commitment. FDS has full accreditation with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards. Training is free however you will need to join as a member to do the training and that cost is $30.00. A manual will need to be purchased at a cost of $30.00.
